Thanks to its scientific excellence and a central Project Management support working closely, UNIBO has gained considerable experience in International and European research projects. In Horizon 2020, UNIBO is so far involved in 278 funded projects (75 as coordinator), with more than 115 M€ of funding. In the framework of the Societal Challenge 1 – Health, Demographic Change & Wellbeing and the Innovative Medicine Initiative and related funding frameworks, UNIBO is participating in 22 projects (17 SC1 project, of which 2 as third party, and 5 IMI-2 JTI Partner projects), with a total EU contribution of over 8 M€. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, The University of Bologna (UNIBO) has been involved in different research activities to tackle the diffusion of the virus. The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences (DIMEC) of UNIBO has been actively working, since the end of February 2019, to manage the COVID-19 pandemic both at clinical and research level in close collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Clinical Unit of the University Hospital S.Orsola-Malpighi (AOU) and the Public Healthcare Provider governance of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences (DIMEC) incorporates major medical and biomedical research areas. DIMEC main missions are teaching, research and healthcare, in collaboration with the S.Orsola-Malpighi General Hospital. DIMEC includes 140 among full professors, associate professors and senior researchers, 80 technical and administrative professionals, and 60 research fellows.
